Vision Statement: Establish a
downtown community diverse in experiences for local residents
and visitors that include retail, dining, parks and cultural
history.
Nestled at the gateway of The Chickasaw
National Recreation area, Sulphur Main Street and the
Sulphur Historic Downtown offers unique and exciting Naturalistic
Experiences with one of Americas' first recognized
federal parks. The coexistence of Nature: camping, boating
and hiking; as well as, the opportunities of shopping,
dining, and many other activities are what make the Sulphur
community a popular tourist destination and a wonderful
place to live.
Sulphur has retained its small town feel...everyone
knows everybody...yet visitors feel welcome. Rich in history,
preserved in pride, the community has protected its natural
springs and created an inviting atmosphere that showcases
the amenities, products and appeal of downtown for the
renewed number of visitors.
Economic Development is a major focus of
the Main Street approach and current investment figures
now top the 3 million mark. The Sulphur Main Street Program
Manager works closely with the Executive Director of the
Chamber of Commerce, Economic Restructuring Committee
and the Murray County Industrial Authority to attract
new business, not only to the Main Street district, but
to the entire county. The organization is also a member
of the Arbuckle Mountain Region Tourism Association.
The Main Street district acts as host for
the, Chamber sponsored, Sulphur Water Festival attended
by thousands of people, and with the addition of the new
plaza, will work with the Chamber and other civic organizations
to attract new cultural events to downtown.
